Location

Ross-on-Wye is a traditional market town set in beautiful rural countryside.  It is approximately 16 miles from Hereford and Gloucester, both with excellent district general hospitals.

External view of the surgery
We are very fortunate to occupy relatively new, purpose-built premises.

The accommodation comprises of:

·          8 consulting rooms
·          1 examination room
·          2 nurse clinic rooms
·          1 HCA clinic room
·          large reception area
·          adequate admin offices
·          staff room
·          training/seminar room
·
staff car park

We cover an area of approximately seven miles radius from the surgery.  Our list size is around 9,700 patients, and each year we have about 600 new patients join the practice.  The age/sex profile reflects the population of Herefordshire as a whole.

Adjacent to the surgery we have a modern Community Hospital, which was opened April 1997.  Together with the other practice in the town, we provide medical cover for the 32 beds and the minor injuries unit.  The beds are GP beds, to which we have full access.

Staff

In all we employ 22 full and part-time staff.  We have a Patient Services Manager, and a full complement of receptionists and secretaries.

Three Practice Nurses work part-time and carry out routine tasks as well as cervical smears and various clinics, such as asthma, diabetes and CHD.  We also have two Health Care Assistants working part time. We are members of the Medical Research Council framework research in general practice, and sometimes have one additional nurse working in the practice for this purpose.    Attached to the practice we have a team of District Nurses, Health Visitors and Community Midwives.

Out of Hours

As from the 1st November 2004 Herefordshire Primary Care Trust has taken over responsibility for all out-of-hours cover. However, as a GP Registrar you will be required to undertake some out-of-hours work and our doctors participate in this in a supporting role.
